Deep tissue massage means working the deeper layers of muscle. At most points of the body especially the back there are about 4 layers of muscle. With this modality more pressure and time is needed for those areas that need extra attention. This method is usually used with sports and trigger point work. I like to tell my clients just because its “deep tissue” doesn’t mean it has to hurt. With my approach I warm the tissue and relax the muscle to allow me into the deeper layers versus plowing through and breaking healthy tissue to get to the deeper layers. This modality is best for someone with more muscle tone, active, and has pain or limited range of motion.
